Funimation's Tenchi Muyo! GXP Anime Digital Rights Expire

posted on by Karen Ressler
Episodes to be removed from streaming service on Friday

An administrator on the Funimation forums announced on Wednesday that the Tenchi Muyo GXP anime will be removed from the FunimationNow streaming service on Friday at 1:01 a.m. EST. Funimation confirmed with ANN that its digital rights for the series have expired.

The post initially also said the DVDs will be removed from the Funimation store, but this part has since been removed. Funimation told ANN that this was incorrect, as only the digital license has expired, not home video.

The anime studio AIC produced Tenchi Muyo GXP in 2002 as the third Tenchi television series. It is a side story centering around the new main lead Seina Yamada, a seemingly ordinary Japanese boy. He finds himself joining the Galaxy Police, due to being mistaken for a certain Tenchi.

FUNimation licensed the series in 2002 and released it on DVD singles in 2004 with reissued boxsets in 2006, 2007, 2010 and 2012.
