Manga follows normal high school student, bizarre classmate

The cover of this year's October issue of Kadokawa's Monthly Comic Gene is announcing on Saturday that Arata Aki's Boku no Tonari ni Ankoku Hakaishin ga Imasu. (There is a Dark God of Destruction Next to Me) manga will get a television anime adaptation.

The manga follows Seri Koyuki, a high school student who tries to avoid strange people because he knows he will just end up being the the straight man to their antics. Enter Kabuto Hanadori, Koyuki's classmate who has chūnibyō (second-year middle school syndrome) and claims his eyepatch seals his god of destruction alter ego. Everything about Hanadori exudes the need for a straight man to keep him in check, and sure enough Koyuki is drawn in.

Aki launched the manga in Comic Gene in January 2013. Kadokawa shipped the ninth compiled volume on February 27, and the 10th volume is slated for October 25. The manga has more than 460,000 copies in print.

Indonesian publisher M&C! has licensed Aki's Sweet Berry (Fetish Berry) manga. Digital Manga Publishing once licensed Aki's The Beautiful Skies of Houou High manga.
