Ai: Tenchi Muyo! gets English dub

FUNimation Entertainment announced at Chicago's C2E2 on Friday that it has licensed Ai: Tenchi Muyo! and both live-action Assassination Classroom (Ansatsu Kyōshitsu) films for home video.

Funimation will release Ai: Tenchi Muyo! on July 10, and the release will include both English and Japanese audio.

Funimation describes the story:

Thanks to Washu, the universe has been thrown into chaos and it's up to Tenchi to clean up the mess. But to do so he's going undercover as a teacher—at an all-girl's school! What awaits him beyond the attention of cute girls at this not-so-ordinary school? And will he be able to balance timelines and trouble that come with this latest adventure? Join the harem and the fun in this series of shorts!

In addition to its new cast of characters, Ai: Tenchi Muyo! also featured returning characters such as Ryoko and Ayeka.

The original anime series premiered in October 2014 and ran for 60 five-minute episodes. Character designer Suzuhito Yasuda (Durarara!!, Yozakura Quartet) designed the characters for the anime and Hiroshi Negishi (Tenchi Universe, Saber Marionette J) returned to the franchise to direct at AIC.

Funimation will release Assassination Classroom on August 7. The release will have Japanese audio with English subtitles.

Funimation describes the films:

The killer manga comes to life in this two-part movie series. Join the students of Class 3-E as they learn to become proper assassins and try to kill their teacher. But he's no ordinary instructor—he's a tentacled creature with a thirst for destruction! And while they train to take him out they quickly learn there's more to Koro Sensei than a will to kill which could put a damper on their mission.

The films opened in Japan in March 2015 and March 2016. The second film portrayed the manga's ending.

Funimation has also licensed both television anime series adaptations of Yūsei Matsui's original manga, as well as the Assassination Classroom the Movie: 365 Days' Time compilation film and Koro Sensei Quest! web anime. The company has not yet confirmed if it will release the Koro Sensei Quest! short film that screened alongside the compilation film.
