Virtual Youtube Sensation Kizuna Ai Gets Terrestrial TV Show

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

YouTube's biggest virtual star Kizuna Ai is set to premiere in her own television program in April. The character is best known for her Let's Play videos and video blogs (vlogs) and she's garnered 1.4 million subscribers. Ai is hoping to take her internet following with her to her BSNii Tele show Kizuna Ai no BEAT Scramble on April 6.

Ai will host the variety program as it quickly introduces the latest trends in music, anime, gaming, and online.

The show's producer discovered Ai via her YouTube channel and was impressed by how much talent the character had. The original plan was to produce the show on the internet but after considering limitations, like requiring a paid account to view the show, production went forward for an on air TV show.

The 30-minute program will be one of the first of its kind to star a virtual character. Characters like Ai are created using inexpensive motion-sensing technology that converts the real YouTuber into their anime girl avatar. One character, NoraCat had her true identity revealed with the technology glitched out during a live stream.

Besides a TV show, Ai is also getting her own Nendoroid courtesy of Good Smile Company.
