News Program: Laid-Back Camp Inspires Newbies to Try Winter Camping

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

Yamanishi Broadcasting System's YBS Wide News program recently aired a feature on the Yurucamp (Yurukyan△, Laid-Back Camp Δ) anime. According to the program, the anime has led some fans to try winter camping near Mount Fuji.

Specifically, campers at the Kouan campgrounds on Lake Motosu told the program that the anime inspired them to brave the winter cold and get a new camping experience. A view of Mount Fuji from Lake Motosu appears in the anime's first episode. The news program reported that the number of campers in the area has tripled compared to three years ago, and people are visiting for the purposes of anime pilgrimages. The official website for Yamanashi Prefecture's Yamanashi Tourism Organization also features a section devoted to the anime and its real-world locations.

The manager of a bookstore in Kōfu, Yamanashi reported on the program that the anime has led to an unexpected boost in sales of the original manga. He said that all of the manga's five volumes except for the fourth have been sold out since early January, despite additional printings.

City employees in Fujinomiya, Shizuoka, which is another camping area near Mount Fuji, recreated the anime's key visual last month.

The camping television anime series premiered on January 4, and Crunchyroll is streaming the series as it airs.

Afro's Yurucamp (Yurukyan△, Laid-Back Camp Δ) "slow outdoor manga" follows two young women. Rin likes to go camping by herself along the lakes that provide a scenic view of Mt. Fuji. Nadeshiko loves to take cycling trips by herself to places where she can see Mt. Fuji. After they meet, Rin and Nadeshiko take camping trips, eat cup ramen together, and enjoy the scenery. Yen Press will release the first volume of the manga in March 2018.
