Fire Emblem Heroes Wins Japan's Google Play Best of 2017

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Google Play announced its winners for the Best of 2017 Japan division on Monday, hailing Fire Emblem Heroes as the best mobile game of the year.

In the game, players take on the role of a summoner who can summon heroes from previous Fire Emblem games. The characters have new illustrations from a variety of artists and newly recorded voice-overs. Like the main games in the Fire Emblem series, Fire Emblem Heroes features tactical battles where the player commands an army. In addition to the main quest, the game offers a training mode for leveling up the characters.

The game launched for iPhone, iPad, and Android devices on February 2.

The user-voted category went to BanG Dream! Girls Band Party!, the rhythm game based on the BanG Dream! multimedia franchise. The game was competing against 19 others, but ultimately pulled ahead. In second place was the A3! ikemen actor-raising game, the shooting RPG Azurlane, The IDOLM@STER Million Live! Theater Days idol game, and Min Golf (Everybody's Golf).

Besides the user's choice category, BanG Dream! Girls Band Party! also won the "Most Attractive" category.

The remaining winners were:

  • Cute & Casual: Pokémon: Magikarp Jump
  • Best Indie Game: Hyōryū Shōjo (Drifting Girl), a fishing game.
  • Creative Division Grand Prize: Another Eden RPG
  • Family Division: Cars: Lightning League
  • Exciting Division Prize: Winning Eleven 2018

The English version of the best of Google Play has its own categories ranging from overall Best Game, to Most Competitive, Most Social, Best Indie, Most Innovative, Best to Pick Up & Play, Best for Kids, and Most Popular. The Japanese games in those categories include: TRANSFORMERS: Forged to Fight (Most Competitive), Fire Emblem Heroes (Most Competitive), Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp (Most Social), Pokémon: Magikarp Jump (Best to Pick Up & Play), and Super Mario Run (Most Popular).

Zeptolab Action's CATS: Crash Arena Turbo Stars won Best Game over all on the English-language site.
