Pokémon Ultra Sun & Moon Include Easter Egg Honoring Late Nintendo President

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Nintendo has officially been hush on the hidden Golf emulator inside the Nintendo Switch console and its apparent reference to late president Satoru Iwata, but it turns out it isn't the only Easter Egg made to remember Iwata, and the newest one is easier to confirm.

Nintendo and GAME FREAK's Pokémon Ultra Sun & Moon games have a meta headquarters within the game in Heahea City. This in-game GAME FREAK headquarters is home to the NPC Morimoto who will enlighten trainers about the history of different Pokémon games when he is shown a Pokémon acquired from one of the Virtual Console games on your team.

Players that show Morimoto a Pokémon from Pokémon Silver are treated to a story about Iwata saving that game generation thanks to a program he coded before he became president of Nintendo.

Boy, when we were told halfway through development to make Kanto, too... I thought I might just expire on the spot! But I'm glad we made it that way.

When we were having trouble fitting all the data in for Gold and Silver, and we were really in a pinch, this amazing guy came along and made a program for us that solved all our problems. He went on to become the amazing president of a real big company soon after that, too.

The story goes that Iwata spent his spare time coding Kanto to be included in the games using heavy data compression. It wasn't the only Pokémon game he saved, either. The battle system in Pokémon Stadium for the Nintendo 64 was based what was currently available from Red and Green. Allegedly, Iwata had no reference documents so he read the games' code directly, reworked it for the Nintendo 64, and finished it all within a week.
