Yuri!!! on Ice, Free! Currently Lead in Tokyo Anime Award Festival's Fan Votes

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Tokyo Anime Award Festival 2018 (TAAF) is currently accepting votes to select the winning anime series and film for its fan categories before the event kicks off in March.

People can vote via Twitter once per day until December 24. The choices are works that screened or aired between October 16, 2016 and October 14, 2017, for a total of 536 eligible anime works. The top ten films and top 90 television anime series will be considered for the Animation of the Year: Anime Fan Award. The poll will also decide the works that will be eligible for the Theatrical Animation Division and Television Animation Division awards, as well as the individual awards for anime staff members.

The awards' official website updates every day with the current rankings, but it does not list the specific number of votes for each anime. Yuri!!! on Ice, this year's winner of both the Animation of the Year: Anime Fan Award and the Television Animation Division award, is leading the running again by a large margin. Because the series premiered before October 16, 2016 and continued airing after that date, the anime was eligible for this year's awards in addition being eligible for next year's awards. In second place is the currently airing The Idolm@ster SideM, followed by Kemono Friends, Land of the Lustrous, and Princess Principal.

Both of the Free! compilation films, Free! -Timeless Medley- Kizuna and Free! -Timeless Medley- Yakusoku, are in the first and second place spots in the movie category. King of Prism: PRIDE the HERO-, In This Corner of the World, and Fate/stay night: Heaven's Feel I. presage flower round out the top five. This year's winner was A Silent Voice, the adaptation of Yoshitoki Ōima's manga series.

The current voting round will select the top 100 anime, including both television anime and films. Voting will open in January for the Animation of the Year: Anime Fan Award based on the top 100 chosen during this round.
