Harvey Awards presents Mashima with 1st Harvey Awards International Spotlight award

Comic industry blog The Beat reported last Friday that the Harvey Awards will present the first Harvey Awards International Spotlight award to manga artist Hiro Mashima during its reception at the New York Comic Con event on Saturday, October 7.

The Harvey Awards will have a reception this year instead of an awarding ceremony due to the transition from its Baltimore Comic-Con event to New York Comic Con after partnering with ReedPOP. The Harvey Awards has a category for "Best American Edition of Foreign Material;" ONE and Yūsuke Murata's One-Punch Man and Shigeru Mizuki's Showa: A History of Japan (1953-1989) were nominated last year.

Mashima will also be in attendance at New York Comic Con, which will be held from October 5-8 at the Javits Center. The Japan Society will host Mashima for a special talk on October 5.

Mashima is the author of the Fairy Tail manga series, which follows the adventures of world's most notorious mage guild, Fairy Tail. The manga launched in 2006, and ended on July 26.

The manga has inspired two television anime, two anime films, several original video anime projects, and spinoff manga. Kodansha Comics publishes the original manga and a number of its spinoffs in North America.

The television anime series is getting a final season in 2018.

Mashima also created the manga Rave Master, which ran for 35 volumes and inspired a 51-episode anime adaption of the same name.
