20th Anniversary of Revolutionary Girl Utena Celebrated with Exhibit, Blu-ray Collection

The ground-breaking Revolutionary Girl Utena anime is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year with a limited-time exhibition and a new Blu-ray collection.
Full details for the exhibition have not yet been announced, but it is titled "Revolutionary Girl Utena TV Anime Broadcast 20th Anniversary Exhibit ~Memories of the Rose and Revolution, Absolute Fate Apocalypse~" and will be held from November 16 to 20 at the 8th floor event hall in the Ikebukuro location of the Tobu Department store.
Advance ticket sales for the event will open at 10 AM JST on September 1. Tickets can be purchased at select Animate stores, the Animate online shop, LAWSON and Seven Eleven convenience stores, and several other locations. General admission is 2,000 yen (about USD $18), and tickets with goods included are 4,000 yen (about USD $36). Tickets can also be purchased at the door, but an additional 200 yen (about USD $1.80) will be added to the price.
A Revolutionary Girl Utena Complete Blu-ray Box was also announced as part of the 20th anniversary celebration. It will be released in Japan on November 15 and is priced at 39,960 yen (about US$360). Copies of the limited edition first release will feature new box and packaging art by Revolutionary Girl Utena character designer Shinya Hasegawa.
The collection includes all 39 anime episodes, the anime film Adolescence of Utena, a 60-minute compilation from the musical versions, the opening and ending tracks, interviews, trailers, and a 150-page booklet. Various other items may be included depending on where the collection is purchased from.
Utena loungewear, lingerie, perfume, and accessories were also announced earlier this year as part of the 20th anniversary celebration.
The original manga artist, Chiho Saitō, also drew a new chapter of the Revolutionary Girl Utena manga in July that will be published in the September issue of Shogakukan's Flowers magazine, and she will be drawing an additional new chapter this winter.
The Revolutionary Girl Utena anime was directed by Kunihiko Ikuhara and originally aired from April to December of 1997. It has been released on DVD in North America by Central Park Media and later Nozomi Entertainment, and Nozomi Entertainment is planning a Blu-ray Disc release for this year.
