posted on by Jennifer Sherman

The next phase of the first part of the 50th anniversary exhibition for Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine will debut at the Roppongi Hills complex's Tokyo Mori Arts Center Gallery on September 1. The exhibit, titled "Sōkan 50 Shūnen Kinen Shūkan Shōnen Jump-ten Vol. 1 Sōkan~1980 Nendai, Densetsu no Hajimari" (50th Anniversary of Weekly Shonen Jump's First Issue Exhibition Vol. 1: First Issue-1980s, Beginning of the Legend), is focusing on the magazine's history from its first issue to the 1980s.

A theater in the exhibit will screen exclusive videos. The exhibit will feature more than 350 illustrations, including more than 100 illustrations changed for this second half of the exhibition. In addition, the exhibition's shop will begin offering a total of eight reproduction illustrations for manga such as Tsukasa Hōjō's City Hunter and Satoshi Ikezawa's Circuit no Ohkami. People who participate in the exhibition's social media campaign are eligible to receive one of 100 Dragon Ball tin badges.

The "Vol. 1" exhibition opened on July 18. The "Sōkan 50 Shūnen Kinen Shūkan Shōnen Jump-ten Vol. 2 1990 Nendai, Hakkō Busū 653-Man-bu no Shōgeki" (50th Anniversary of Weekly Shonen Jump's First Issue Exhibition Vol. 2: 1990s, Impact of 6.53 Million Copies in Print) continuation of the exhibition will be held from March to June 2018, followed by the "Sōkan 50 Shūnen Kinen Shūkan Shōnen Jump-ten Vol. 3 2000 Nendai, Shinka Suru Saikyō Zasshi no Ima" (50th Anniversary of Weekly Shonen Jump's First Issue Exhibition Vol. 3: Present of the Evolving Strongest Magazine) from July to September 2018.

A Honda Fit car covered in Shonen Jump art is on display at Roppongi Hills until August 27.

The magazine is also marking its 50th anniversary in 2018 with new printings of its landmark issues, an international manga contest, and a smartphone game.
