Gintama Makes Fashion Statement With New Apparel Visuals

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

Anime News Network's merchandise coverage sponsored by Tokyo Otaku Mode.

The official Gintama PR Twitter account unveiled three visuals on Tuesday for the franchise's new apparel items in collaboration with SwimmyDesignLab and HTML03. Although the images look like someone's 10-year-old brother might have drawn them, they are actually official collaboration art.

The Gintoki image includes the text "sugar content" and "I love strawberry milk." The Katsura and Elizabeth image includes the text "Don't call me Zura!!" "Zura" is a shortened form of Katsura's name that Gintoki likes to call him, and the word also means "wig" in Japanese. The Hijikata and Okita design shows the two Shinsengumi members with their pejorative "Dogs of the Bakufu" nickname.

Bandai Fashion Collection will begin accepting preorders for the unrevealed apparel items on July 20. Fans will probably have to wait until then to learn what clothing items will feature the unique designs.

The live-action film adaptation of Hideaki Sorachi's Gintama manga will open in Japan on Friday. The film is partnering with the original manga to celebrate the release of the series' 69th compiled volume. The film is also collaborating with Yoshinoya to promote the restaurant's beef bowls.
