JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Exhibit Gets Manhole Covers in Real S City

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

The "Araki Hirohiko Genga-ten JoJo-ten in S-shi Moriō-chō 2017" (Hirohiko Araki Key Frame Exhibit JoJo Exhibit in Morioh, S City) art exhibit announced on Monday that it will get manhole covers in Sendai, Miyagi from August 4 to September 10. The project will put nine different manhole covers in nine locations around the city of Sendai.

The fictional town of Morioh is the setting of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable, the fourth part of Araki's JoJo's Bizarre Adventure manga. The town is part of S City in Japan's M Prefecture, which is a reference to Sendai, Miyagi. Sendai is Araki's hometown.

The art exhibition will run in Sendai from from August 12 to September 10. The exhibit marking the 30th anniversary of Araki's manga will include art from all eight parts of the series.

The live-action film adaptation of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable is also set in Morioh. The movie's version of Morioh was filmed in Sitges, Spain. The film will open in Japan on August 4.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders, the third part of the manga, inspired a 4D attraction at Universal Studios Japan in Osaka. The attraction is part of this year's Universal Jump Summer collaboration. The Shonen Jump campaign also features One Piece, Dragon Ball, and Gintama and is running from June 30 to October 1.
