Kadokawa Announces Girls' Last Tour Anime & Original Anime Project (Updated)

posted on by Karen Ressler

Anime News Network's coverage of Anime Expo 2017 is sponsored by Aniplex and Yen Press.

Kadokawa announced two more anime at Anime Expo on Sunday. The first is an anime adaptation of Tsukumizu's Girls' Last Tour (Shōjo Shūmatsu Ryokō) manga, and the second is an original anime titled A Place Further Than the Universe (Uchū Yorimo Tōi Basho: A Story That Leads to Antarctica).

Takaharu Ozaki (Persona 5 the Animation -The Day Breakers-) is directing Girls' Last Tour at WHITE FOX. Kazuyuki Fudeyasu (Is the order a rabbit?, Monster Musume) is serving as story editor and Mai Toda (Matoi the Sacred Slayer, Holy Knight) is designing the characters. Shō Tanaka (No Game, No Life, Re:Zero) is producing the anime.

The manga centers on Chito and Yuri, two women who travel aimlessly in their beloved Kettenkrad vehicle in the endless ruins of society after the end of the world. Tsukumizu publishes the manga digitally on Shinchosha's "Kurage Bunch" website. Yen Press licensed the series and is releasing it in English.

Yen Press describes the story:

Civilization is dead, but Chito and Yuuri are still alive. So they hop aboard their beloved Kettenkrad motorbike and aimlessly wander the ruins of the world they once knew. Day after hopeless day, they look for their next meal and fuel for their ride. But as long as the two are together, even an existence as bleak as theirs has a ray or two of sunshine in it, whether they're sucking down their fill of soup or hunting for machine parts to tinker with. For two girls in a world full of nothing, the experiences and feelings the two share give them something to live for...

A Place Further Than the Universe centers on high school girls going to the South Pole. The project will reunite staff from No Game, No Life: Atsuko Ishizuka is directing the series and Jukki Hanada is writing the script. Takahiro Yoshimatsu (Hunter × Hunter 2011, Trigun) is designing the characters. Kenji Nakamoto is producing and Madhouse is animating the series.

Update: Second Girls' Last Tour photo added.

Update 2: More staff, cleaner visuals added.
