Futari H Manga Holds Contest to Guess Baby's Name, Sex

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

One of manga's long-running romantic couples are finally expecting their first child. Yura Onoda and Makoto Onoda of Aki Katsu's Futari H (Manga Sutra) manga are pregnant; about six years after Katsu first made note of the upcoming plot development. The pace seems about right for a series that's been in print for 20 years.

The manga's publisher is celebrating the upcoming birth by holding a contest. Readers can take a guess at the baby's sex and name for a chance to win one of three signed color boards. 100 participants that correctly guess the baby's sex can win a card with a drawing on it. Readers can enter the contest by mailing in a postcard with their name, address, age, occupation, phone number, favorite character, what kind of "Futari no Etchi" goods you want, and a message for Aki Katsu to Chiyoda-ku, Kanda-Awaji Town 2-2-2, Tokyo, Hakusensha Young Animal Editorial Department "Futari Etchi" Sex/Name Prediction section.

Not sure which name to pick? Maybe try some of Japan's most popular.

The series' 70th volume goes on sale on April 28. Katsu (Psychic Academy, The Vision of Escaflowne) has been drawing Manga Sutra, which describes itself as a "love bible" or a "user's manual" for people in love, in Young Animal and Young Animal Arashi since 1997. The manga inspired two original video anime (OVA) series in 2002 and 2014.

Tokyopop published Katsu's The Vision of Escaflowne, Psychic Academy, and Manga Sutra in North America before closing its doors in 2011. Media Blasters licensed and released the 2002 OVAs on DVD in North America under the title Step Up Love Story.

A third live-action film based on the manga shipped on home video in Japan in 2012.
