Touken Ranbu Gets 4th Stage Musical in Fall

2nd "Shinken Ranbu Sai" event also confirmed for Tokyo, Osaka, Saitama in December

The official Twitter account of the Touken Ranbu stage musicals revealed on Sunday that a fourth stage musical has been green-lit. The franchise will also get its second "Shinken Ranbu Sai" live event.

The musical will run from November 2017 to January 2018, and will have performances in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka. The new stage musical will feature a new story.

The "Shinken Ranbu Sai" event will take place at the Budokan in Tokyo, Osaka-jō Hall in Osaka, and the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama. The cast and characters that will appear in the event will be revealed at a later date. The first "Shinken Ranbu Sai" was held last December in Osaka and Tokyo.

Tōken Ranbu Mihotose no Komoriuta, the third stage musical, ran from March to April 23 in Japan, and will run in Zhuhai, China on May 19-21.

The third musical's main cast includes Tsubasa Sakiyama as Ishikirimaru, Hirofumi Araki as Nikkari Aoe, Motohiro Ōta as Sengo Muramasa, spi as Tonbokiri, Ryūgi Yokota as Monoyoshi Sadamune, and Takuma Zaiki as Ookurikara.

The second musical, Tōken Ranbu - Bakumatsu Tenrōden, ran from September to October last year, with a final performance in Tokyo in November. The play also ran in Shanghai on January 13-15. The first musical ran from last May to June.

The Tōken Ranbu: Hanamaru television anime premiered in October. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired in Japan, and Funimation released English-dubbed episodes. A second season of the series will premiere in January 2018. ufotable is producing a separate Katsugeki! Tōken Ranbu television anime, which will debut in July.

The Tōken Ranbu "sword personification training game" takes famous swords from Japanese history and interprets them as bishōnen. Nitroplus designed the characters and scenario. The game launched in Japan in 2015, and it has more than 1.5 million users. The game has acquired a large female fanbase and inspired a wide range of merchandise, as well as several manga.
