'your name.,' Shin Godzilla, In This Corner of The World Film Producers Win Fujimoto Awards

Japan's Eiga Engeki Bunka Kyōkai (Film Theater Culture Association) announced the winners of its 36th annual Fujimoto Awards on Thursday. The your name. film's staff, including director Makoto Shinkai and producer Genki Kawamura, received this year's general award. In addition, producers Akihiro Yamauchi and Yoshihiro Sato of Shin Godzilla and producers Masao Maruyama and Taro Maki of In This Corner of the World won the special award for their respective films.

The Fujimoto Awards, named after Shachō and Wakadaishō series producer Sanezumi Fujimoto, recognize the achievements of film producers who have worked on popular and entertaining films. This year's awards recognized films that opened between April 2016 and March 2017.

The film your name. opened in Japan last August, and has become the fourth highest-grossing film of all time in Japan, the second highest-grossing Japanese film, and the second highest-grossing anime film. As of the end of March, the film had earned 24.8 billion yen (US$229 million) in Japan. The film is still screening in Japan.

Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi's Shin Godzilla earned 8.2 billion yen (US$75.6 million) at the box office in Japan after opening in Japan on July 29. The 56th Japan Science Fiction Convention (Nihon SF Taikai) revealed earlier this month that both your name. and Shin Godzilla received nominations for the 48th Seiun Awards.

Sunao Katabuchi's In This Corner of the World premiered in Japan on November 12, and the film won Animation of the Year at this year's Japan Academy Prizes.
