A Certain Magical Index Editor: Please Wait a Little Longer for Season 3

posted on by Egan Loo

At the end of the "New Work Announcement" panel at the "Dengeki Game Festival 2017 & Dengeki Bunko Spring Festival 2017 & Dengeki Comic Festival 2017" event on Sunday, light novel editor and anime producer Kazuma Miki asked fans to "please wait a little longer for season 3!" Miki did not specify which franchise his statement was referencing, but he said it after announcing the Toaru Majutsu no Virtual-On fighting game.

As the title indicates, the game is a collaboration between Kazuma Kamachi's A Certain Magical Index fantasy light novel series and Sega's Virtual-On robot-fighting video games. Kamachi had written a Toaru Majutsu no Index x Dennō Senki Virtual-On: Toaru Majutsu no Virtual-On (A Certain Magical Index x Cyber Troopers Virtual-On: A Certain Magical Virtual-On) crossover novel (pictured at right) last year.

Miki wrote on his Twitter account last April, "Please understand that this is an unofficial statement. I am always receiving everyone's passionate opinions on this. Index anime [season 3] is plausible, so please wait!!"

A Certain Magical Index light novel series has inspired two television anime series, a 2013 anime film, and multiple manga adaptations. A Certain Scientific Railgun spinoff manga has also inspired two TV anime adaptations and an original video anime (OVA) project.

Yen Press is releasing the original light novel series in English, and Funimation has released all of the anime adaptations in North America outside of the A Certain Scientific Railgun OVA. Seven Seas Entertainment is releasing the A Certain Scientific Railgun manga and the A Certain Scientific Accelerator manga in English, and Yen Press is releasing the A Certain Magical Index manga in English.
