DAYS Soccer Anime Gets Sequel

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
1st anime season based on Tsuyoshi Yasuda's manga ends next Sunday

The 2017 combined second and third issue of Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine is revealing on Wednesday that the television anime series based on Tsuyoshi Yasuda's DAYS manga is getting a sequel. The magazine didn't reveal any details about the new anime project.

The 2017 first issue of Weekly Shōnen Magazine had teased on Wednesday that DAYS would have an "important announcement" in the combined second and third issue.

The first anime premiered on July 2, and it will have 24 episodes. The anime's 23rd episode aired on Sunday. Crunchyroll is streaming the anime as it airs in Japan. Ponycan USA plans to release the series in the U.S.

The story centers on two boys who were never meant to meet: Tsukushi Tsukamoto, who has no special skills but secretly hides a passionate heart, and Jin Kazama, an isolated soccer genius. On a stormy night, the two meet, and that meeting creates a whirlwind in the world of high school soccer.

Yasuda launched DAYS in Weekly Shōnen Magazine in April 2013, and Kodansha published the 19th compiled volume on October 17. Kodansha will publish the 20th compiled volume on January 17. Amazon is currently listing that limited editions of the manga's 21st and 22nd volumes will both bundle DVDs, but the listings don't give any details about what the DVDs will contain. Amazon lists the 21st volume as shipping on March 17, and the 22nd volume as shipping on May 15.

The manga was nominated in the Best Shōnen Manga category for Kodansha's 39th Annual Manga Awards in 2015, and it ranked at #12 on the Honya Club website's "Nationwide Bookstore Employees' Recommended Comics of 2014" list.

Saori Otoha launched a spinoff manga in Kodansha's Magazine Pocket manga app in October.
