Jiro Taniguchi Explores Venice in Louis Vuitton Travel Book

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

In 2014, manga creator Jiro Taniguchi continued his relationship with France when he was hired by luxury brand Louis Vuitton to pen one of its travel books. The company has published a number of high-end travel guides for destinations like London and New York, but Taniguchi's book exploring Venice is unique for being entirely illustrated.

Until recently, the volume was only available in Louis Vuitton stores, but Japanese publisher Futaba is now making the volume available in soft cover format for 4,212 yen (US$37.50). The book follows a young Japanese man who sets out to Venice to retrace the footsteps of his grandfather.

Taniguchi is the creator of the Kodoku no Gourmet manga series. He was knighted in France in 2011. A live-action film adaptation of A Distant Neighborhood (Harukana Machi e/Quartier Lointain) was produced in Belgium, Luxembourg, France, and Germany in 2010 and Julianne Films, a studio in France, is producing a CG film based on his Summit of the Gods manga in collaboration with Belgium's Walking The Dog and Luxembourg's Mélusine Productions. Taniguchi is also the creator of the Guardians of the Louvre manga, part of the Louvre art museum's comics line.
