Hatsune Miku Holds Concert With Kodō Taiko Group

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

An official website and Twitter account for Hatsune Miku's latest collaborative concert launched on Thursday. The virtual idol is teaming up with the famous taiko group Kodō for special concerts on March 4-5.

The concerts are part of NHK's This is Nippon Premium Theater series of performances to welcome the 2020 Olympics to Tokyo. The series aims to promote and highlight Japanese traditional culture while showcasing it for people inside Japan as well as overseas.

The performances will take place at Tokyo's NHK Hall on March 4 at 7:00 p.m. and on March 5 at 1:00 p.m. These concerts will be a new performance style, and this is the first time Hatsune Miku has partnered with a taiko group. The official website will publish more details about the concerts in the future.

Tickets will cost 4,900 yen (about US$43) for B seats, 5,900 yen (US$52) for A seats, and 6,900 yen (US$61) for S seats. An advance ticket lottery will accept applications from December 13 to December 20, and regular ticket sales will begin on January 14.

Kodō is a well-known and popular taiko group based on Sado Island in Niigata Prefecture. The group debuted at the Berlin Festival in 1981, and it has held more than 5,800 concerts in 48 countries. The group also hosts a large taiko festival called Earth Celebration on Sado Island every summer.

Hatsune Miku transformed into a ballerina at memorial concerts for late composer and synthesizer artist Isao Tomita on November 11 and November 12. Snow Miku products and another giant snow sculpture of the virtual idol will appear in Sapporo, Hokkaido on February 6-12.
