MegaBots Giant Robot Battle to Be Televised Next Year

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Last year, the U.S.-based MegaBots company launched a successful Kickstarter campaign to fund its duel with Suidobashi Heavy Industry's million-dollar Kuratas robot. Since the campaign completed, MegaBots has started its documentary series with two episodes thus far chronicling how to both destroy and create a giant robot. But what about the duel everyone is looking forward to watching?

The Wall Street Journal revealed that the match is on and slated for television next year. Creators Matt Oehrlein and Gui Cavalcanti have gone forward with attaching a chainsaw arm to their Mark III. and it can cut through a washing machine like it was paper. The duo plans to have their robot finished this year.

Winning the battle isn't MegaBots' only goal. The company hopes it will usher in a whole new type of sport where they can sell off US$750,000 robot kits and the finished products face off. Oehrlein and Cavalcanti plan to introduce a level of drama to the battles. In fact, while much of the Mark III's design is based around the two emerging alive, other elements are designed to warm up a crowd including detachable arms and human-like breathing movements.

The exact date and location for the duel is still unknown, but if Oehrlein and Cavalcanti have their way it definitely won't be the last robot battle we see.
