Pokémon Trading Card Game Nostalgia Continues in Goofy Ads

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

What would you trade a Pokémon card for? In a latest series of ads one boy tries to trade various things for his classmates Pokémon card. Sometimes he gets lucky, like trading a Zapdos card for a Charizard, or a Pikachu for a Charmander.

Other times he's not so lucky, like trying to pass off a photo of his mom for an Onyx.

The ads are a recreation of the original "Torikaekko Please" (Let's Trade, Please) song created for the game 20 years ago. The music video featured three elf-like characters that danced similarly to the kids in the new commercials. The original song featured Sachiko Kobayashi, Raymond Johnson, and Imakuni.

The Pokémon Trading Card Game is celebrating its 20th anniversary on October 20. A special event is planned for August 26 and a book collecting the original artwork from the game will be released on September 16.

The game is also getting booster packs featuring the original packaging design from when it first launched.
