Character Designer Mel Kishida to be Maid for a Day
posted on by Eric Stimson
Gonzo illustrator Mel Kishida (Hana-Saku Iroha, Atelier Rorona: The Alchemist of Arland) will try out a new job on April 3: maid. At a maid cafe, no less. He will carry on the proud tradition of cute Japanese maids, drawing pictures on omrice (omelets filled with rice) with ketchup and chanting cute incantations (his will be "Mel Mel"). He will also hold an autograph session.
What Mel Kishida-chan will look like, according to his Twitter account
Kishida is known for his comparatively realistic style of drawing pretty girls, but even more for his... unconventional antics. He is clearly comfortable crossdressing, as evidenced by his cosplay as Kan Colle's Shimakaze, participated in a sumō wrestling match at Nico Nico Chōkaigi at the last minute, and designed a motorcycle helmet for the J-pop group Conquistador del Arcoíris. He is a cosplay aficionado in general, and photos of him such as this have circulated around the Internet.
If you're interested in being waited upon by an erratic character designer in a nice dress, stop by the Shinjuku, Tokyo branch of the Maidreamin cafe on April 3 at 1 PM for "Shinjuku Maid Mel Kishida-chan's Debut ☆〜 He'll Make You 'Mel Mel' ♡〜" Reservations can be made here. Hey, if nothing else, your ketchup drawing will most likely be higher quality than usual.
